MOTs in Bath

At GCS we launched a dedicated MOT Test Station on the Bath Business Park in 2008. This purpose built station utilises state of the art technology called an Automated Test Lane (ATL). The key benefit of an ATL is that it provides more accurate test information than traditional methods.

You may be aware that an MOT is a legal requirement, but you may not be aware that the recent computerisation of the MOT testing system by Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) means police and mobile camera units can now check remotely to see if your vehicle has a current MOT. If you're found to be driving without a valid MOT, you could be left with £1,000 fine and points on your license. More importantly, an MOT protects you and other road users as it proves that your vehicle is roadworthy, by checking that important areas such as brakes and seatbelts are to the required standard.

For the MOT to be valid you first need to have a test when the car's three year's old then annually after that. At GCS, we recommend to our customers that their car is retested more than a month before the current MOT is due as it'll simply expire a year later. For example, if the current certificate was due to expire on 1 June 2009, and the vehicle was tested on or after 2 May 2009, the certificate would run from the test date until 1 June 2010.

Whether you drive a car, van or motorbike, each vehicle will have its own specific MOT test list, including areas such as steering and suspension, windscreen, seat belts, brakes and more.

Our MOT Test Station is certified by VOSA. The result of each check is recorded by our highly trained MOT Test Station Manager, and if the vehicle passes, a VT20 ‘pass' certificate is issued. However, if the vehicle fails to meet the required standard a VT30 ‘failure' document is issued. Items that are not quite a failure, but worthy of a mention are drawn to your attention as ‘advisory' items.

At GCS we try to assist our customers as much as possible with their annual MOT. As a courtesy we will always write to you well in advance of your next test due date to remind you to book your vehicle in for its next test. Our customers find this incredibly helpful.
